This is my 'profile assignment' for school. This is an obligation that every senior year student has to do of the dutch government. 'profile' does NOT mean that the assignment is about yourself. The profile assignment can be about anything you like for any class you like and you have to spend at least 80 hours on your assignment. I choose to do a practical profile assignment for art class.

This drawing is about 40 x 28 inches (100x70 cm)

I spent about 170 hours on this piece.

Basically, the drawing is ordered in 6 pieces, 3 in the upper half, 3 in the lower half that were put in order like you're reading.
The reason why, is because I thought life could be divided by 6 periods of time.

I’ve always been interested in the symbolism in ancient art from the renaissance period.
So I thought. Why not use symbolism in my piece, as I wanted some deeper meaning in this project.

So I’m going to explain every piece of time in the drawing if you might be interested, or if you would like to know why I choose this composition.

1. Birth/childhood(+/-age 0-12)
- Pregnant woman: birth of course (lol)
- Child: well I just thought it was a beautiful kid lol
Birth and childhood is kind of empty, I didn’t really know what to do with this area.

Flower transition to puberty: This period is the prime of everyone’s life in general. So that’s why the flowers

2. Puberty(+/-age 12-20)
- Girl entangles in chains: in puberty most people are confused with who they are, and in some times, people are really confused and ‘entangled’
with themselves.
- The couple: In this period most people get introduced in the world of looooooove and being sexual and stuff xd so this is a couple just you know, having their first relationship.
- The skinny naked girl: A lot of girls are insecure about themselves, mostly through their puberty, so I decided to use a picture of an anorexic girl to depict this issue. Because this girl is drawn towards the elderly period, it has a meaning there too, but I’ll explain that in the elderly section


3. Maturity(+/-age 20-50)
- Woman blowing bubbles: When you become and adult, you’ll get more freedom. I thought the picture of the woman fit good with this feeling.
- Bubbles: this is not only in the adult section, but as you can see it is everywhere. The bubbles stand for vulnerability of life. A bubble can pop any second and you’re gone, and it could happen anywhere in your life.
-Heel and man on the floor: This is just temptation actually. I guess as an adult you get more confident about yourself, and real serious relationships are going. A man may become an important part of your life.

4.Midlife crisis(+/-age 50-60)
- Woman smoking and drinking coffee: This is when you get to that point where you (can) feel depressed. The woman in the picture starts to smoke and drink coffee to make her feel a little bit better, when you can see in her eyes(because they’re dark) that it’s not exactly great for her health, physically and mentally.

5.Elderly(+/-age 60-death(number 6))
- Girl laying looking at a pendant: At this point a woman will get aging diseases by example and she spends a lot of time resting, or in the hospital. She’s realizing now that her time on earth is almost over, so she’s looking at the watch.

- Naked girl on the bed: As I mentioned before, this girl is anorexic in section 2, but in the elderly section, she is laying on a bed. Because, like I just said, an older woman will get ill. And maybe because of the illness, she will get weak and skinny, so that is how the anorexic girl fit in this section too, so I used two sections to place her.


6. Death
- Skull: well I guess that makes sense..
